Dr Mark Jones LFRAIA
Mark Jones is a highly regarded Queensland architect with a deep experience in practice and in academia. He has served as Queensland Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and is a Life Fellow of that Institute. Mark has been Chair and a member of several AIA committees at state and at National level.
Mark enjoyed a successful career in architectural practice of more than 35 years including 16 years as founding Director of Mark Jones Architects and 8 years as Director of Architectus, a leading national practice. Several of his buildings were awarded prestigious AIA awards. During his career, Mark completed Masters degrees in Management (2005, Newcastle) and in Business (2015, UQ). In 2015, he left practice to undertake a Masters in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Oxford, completing that degree in 2017. Mark’s PhD in Development Planning at the Bartlett School, University College London was completed in 2020. On his return to Australia, Mark was appointed as Associate Professor in the School of Architecture at UQ, teaching in Design, Practice and Construction.
He is currently appointed as an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Queensland (UQ).
Mark combines skills and knowledge gained from many years at senior levels of industry with an extensive history of academic study and advanced research including at world-leading universities along with his teaching at UQ.
Mark’s current book, titled ‘Success in Architectural Practice’ is expected to be released in mid-2026.
